Answers to important your questions

This strategic pillar is a direct embodiment of IPI’s core values and principles in action:

  • Cooperation Over Confrontation
The pillar is explicitly founded on “cooperation without domination,” ensuring collaboration respects sovereignty and shared interests—not force or control.

  • Respect for Sovereignty & Law
Every initiative under this pillar operates within the boundaries of national sovereignty and international law, ensuring partnerships are lawful and consensual.

  • Evidence-Based Action
The approach is driven by the strategic reality that modern threats—from terrorism to climate disasters—are transnational, requiring intelligence-led, coordinated responses.

  • Regional Solutions for Regional Challenges
While engaging international partners, the focus remains on strengthening East African capacity and creating a unified regional voice—not outsourcing security.

  • Sustainability & Resilience
By building integrated peace, security, and disaster-response architectures, IPI promotes long-term stability rather than short-term fixes.

  • Inclusivity & Equity
The pillar ensures that smaller states benefit from shared resources and joint operations, reducing inequality in capacity and response capabilities.

It means IPI builds partnerships based on mutual respect, shared goals, and sovereignty—never imposing political systems or undermining national authority. Our initiatives, like joint training or intelligence sharing, are designed with nations and institutions, not for them, ensuring all parties retain full control over their roles and resources.

IPI focuses on building systems, not just solutions. This includes:

  • Training local peacekeepers and mediators

  • Strengthening regional early-warning networks

  • Supporting community-led reconciliation programs

  • Promoting laws and policies that institutionalize dialogue

By empowering people and structures, we help turn ceasefires into lasting peace.

We operate with full transparency and accountability.

Yes, where access and safety allow. IPI prioritizes:

  • Neutral, humanitarian-focused engagement

  • Facilitating dialogue between parties

  • Coordinating with local and international partners

  • Supporting civilian protection and disaster response

Our role is to de-escalate tension and create pathways to peace, not to take sides.

They are central to it. IPI actively engages women and youth through:

  • The Women, Youth, and Vulnerable Communities Department

  • Leadership training and peace ambassador programs

  • Inclusion in community mediation and decision-making

  • Specialized seminars on conflict resolution and security

We believe inclusive peace is stronger and more durable

IPI partners at multiple levels:

  • Government bodies (e.g., defense, disaster management, health)

  • Regional institutions (e.g., East African Community, African Court)

  • International organizations (UN agencies, humanitarian NGOs)

  • Local communities and civil society groups

  • Academic and research institutions

These partnerships allow us to operate from the community level to the international stage

While East Africa is our operational home and priority, our approach is both regional and global. Many challenges—like terrorism, climate disasters, and cyber threats—cross borders. Therefore, we:

  • Base our programs in East Africa

  • Share lessons and models with other regions

  • Partner internationally to address transnational issues

  • Host delegates and trainees from beyond Africa

Our model is locally grounded and globally connected
